BATTLE OF KAMPERDUIN, OCTOBER 11, 1797

In 1997, the 200th anniversary of this battle inspired us to extend our Napoleonic 1:1200 naval models to include the Dutch vessels.

Following on from this, an article was written by Vincent van Deventer of Holland,  on the detail and decoration of the Dutch vessels at the time of this battle. The article appeared in Miniature Wargames, No 175, together with the fleet lists which we researched and supplied.

Vincent then organised a re-fight of the battle at the Rotterdam Maritime Museum and invited members of the Naval Wargames Society UK to take part. The team of eight to make the expedition to Holland were: David Manley, Rod Langton, Stuart Barnes Watson, Andy Jose, Dave Willcocks, Mark Russell, Ben Hutchings and Mike Parsons. You can read a report of the battle (using Rod's Signal Close Action) if you get hold of a back copy of Miniature Wargames No 185, October 1998.

Here for your convenience are the fleet lists again.

Dutch Vessels at Kamperduin - an overview of these vessels including colour schemes etc out of the research by Vincent.
